Pure Ride Ph Grand Launch

A new ride-hailing app, Pure Ride, officially launched in Manila, offering an affordable and locally developed transportation alternative for Filipinos. The grand launch took place at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on February 14, 2025, with an event that featured exciting prizes, giveaways, food, and entertainment. Pure Ride, designed by Filipinos for Filipino passengers, initially became available for Android users, with an iOS version set to follow soon. To celebrate its launch, the company gave away three motorcycles, one electric car, including lots of major and minor prizes to lucky participants.

Pure Ride, backed by the Pure Group of Companies, aimed to improve transportation by focusing on both passengers and drivers. During the event, Edison Go Tan, Chief Operating Officer, emphasized that the company’s mission was to offer a trustworthy and fair alternative to existing ride-hailing services. 2025 National Textile Convention (TELACon)

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) led the 2025 National Textile Convention (TELACon) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on January 30-31. Themed "Weaving Circularity," the event highlighted sustainable and innovative practices in the textile and garment industries. In line with Proclamation No. 313, which designates January as Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Month, the event featured the KatHABI Textile Innovation Exposition, showcasing locally crafted textiles from natural fibers.


The first day focused on circularity in textile production, covering closed-loop systems, upcycling, and life-cycle analysis. A keynote address underscored the role of science, technology, and innovation in driving sustainability. The "Circular Economy Forum" discussed governance, policies, and business models supporting a sustainable textile industry. Experts from the United Nations Development Programme, NEDA, and the Department of Finance contributed insights on integrating circular economy principles into national policies. Industry leaders, including representatives from Bayo and Basically Borrowed, shared sustainable product development strategies.



The second day introduced strategic partnerships and initiatives to strengthen the Philippine textile industry. Highlights included Cebu Pacific Air’s promotion of local weaves, the expansion of the Bamboo Textile Fiber Innovation Hub, and a research collaboration with UP-Diliman on bamboo textiles. DOST-PTRI also partnered with Creative Definitions to explore alternative leather materials and collaborated with HeArteFino to develop Philippine Tropical Fabric products. The Philippine Tropical Fabrics Technical Committee panel discussed key achievements, future plans, and legislative efforts to integrate local fabrics into mainstream fashion and government uniforms.


The convention concluded with the "KatHABI Fashion Innovation Show," featuring government-appropriate uniforms made from Philippine Tropical Fabrics, in line with RA 9242. TELACon reinforced the country’s commitment to a circular textile economy, providing a platform for innovation, collaboration, and sustainability.

FFCCCII Chinese New Year Dinner Reception and Special Awards Ceremony



The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) hosted its annual Chinese New Year Dinner Reception and Special Awards Ceremony on January 29 at the Golden Bay Seafood Restaurant in Pasay City. The event celebrated Lunar New Year traditions, honored outstanding Filipinos, and marked the 50th anniversary of Philippines-China diplomatic relations. Under the theme of the Year of the Snake, the gathering recognized seven individuals for their contributions to Philippine society. Among them was former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, acknowledged for her role in establishing diplomatic ties with China, with Senator Imee Marcos accepting the award on her behalf. Renowned screenwriter Ricky Lee, singer-songwriter Jose Mari Chan, and journalist Jessica Soho were also among the esteemed awardees.



Jessica Soho, celebrating her 40th anniversary in journalism, received recognition for her contributions to broadcast media. During her speech, she dedicated the award to her late Chinese grandfathers, acknowledging her heritage and the influence of the Filipino-Chinese community. Soho recalled tracing her roots to Guangdong in 2007 and shared how her Cantonese ancestry influenced her love for Chinese cuisine. Kenneth Cobonpue, a globally acclaimed industrial designer, was honored for elevating Filipino craftsmanship on the world stage. Beauty queen Michelle Dee was also recognized for her advocacy work, particularly in autism awareness, continuing her family's legacy of philanthropy and community service.




Beyond individual recognitions, the event underscored the strong cultural and economic ties between the Philippines and China. FFCCCII President Dr. Cecilio Pedro emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, especially as the two nations marked five decades of diplomatic relations. On January 6, 2025, HONOR Philippines made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for "The Most People Performing a Mobile Phone Drop Test Simultaneously." In a bold demonstration of durability, 264 participants—including influencers and preregistered users—dropped the HONOR X9c 5G from shoulder height. The event, held ahead of the phone’s official launch, showcased the device’s toughness, as all 264 units withstood the impact without breaking. HONOR Philippines Vice President Stephen Cheng described this achievement as a milestone not only for the company but also for its loyal supporters. The test highlighted the brand’s confidence in the HONOR X9c 5G, reinforcing its reputation as one of the most durable smartphones in the market.



Beyond the drop test, the HONOR X9c 5G demonstrated impressive resistance to extreme conditions. The device received an SGS 5-Star rating for drop resistance and was designed to survive falls of up to two meters. Additionally, it featured an IP65M water resistance rating, allowing it to withstand submersion up to 25 centimeters for five minutes. The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) held a significant presentation forum on December 19, 2024, at the Swiss-Belhotel Blulane in Manila, reinforcing the country’s commitment to gender equality. The event highlighted key findings from the BPfA+30 Philippine Progress Report and emphasized the need for continued implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA). It also provided insights from the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Meeting on BPfA+30, which took place in November 2024, offering a broader regional perspective on advancing women’s rights. Go Negosyo Balik-Bayan Summit 2024

The Go Negosyo Balik-Bayan Summit 2024 took place on December 7 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, serving as a platform to empower Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families. The event, themed "Kabuhayan Para sa Kinabukasan," provided insights into business opportunities, investment matches, and financial literacy to encourage OFWs to become entrepreneurs. Organized by Go Negosyo and led by its founder Joey Concepcion, the summit featured engaging discussions, learning sessions with successful entrepreneurs, and free on-site mentorship from business experts. A key highlight of the event was the awarding of the 2024 Inspiring Balik-Bayan Awards, recognizing OFWs who successfully transitioned into entrepreneurship.



The summit gathered prominent figures, including First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cris Roque, and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac. 6th Katipunan Conference

The 6th Katipunan Conference took place on November 5, 2024, at Areté, Ateneo de Manila University, with the theme “Philippine Strategic Outlook 2024 Onwards: National Security and Economic Resilience.” Organized by the Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) through the Ateneo Policy Center (APC), the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS), and Miriam College, the event brought together leading scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in defense and economic development. With support from KAS Philippines, the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Association of the Philippines, Stratbase ADR Institute, and WR Advisory Group, the conference provided a platform for discussing economic and security challenges in light of geopolitical shifts and global economic trends. Experts emphasized the need for strong national security policies, foreign investment strategies, and economic resilience measures to address emerging threats and opportunities.
